Flood Watch: Heavy storms continue this afternoon; flash flooding possible

  • Heavy storms continue through the day
  • Flash flooding possible
  • Oppressive humidity ahead
  • Storm chances continue

QUAD CITIES, Iowa/Ill. (KWQC) –

Flash Flood Warnings and a Flood Watch are in place for parts of the region Sunday. Several heavy storms have formed, dropping significant amounts of rainfall over a short period of time. With the very dry ground, the rainfall will not absorb into the ground as effectively, which will lead to higher runoff and ponding in low lying areas. If you live in a flood prone area, stay alert this afternoon and evening, and prepare to move to higher ground.

As of 1 p.m., a Flash Flood Warning is in place for Bureau County, where portions of Route 40 are closed due to flooding over the road. An additional Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Cedar, Clinton and Muscatine Counties for heavy rainfall that is likely to lead to flash flooding.

More storms will continue to move over the same areas this afternoon and evening, leading to additional flash flooding concerns…
