200,000 visitors could make this one of the Iowa City area’s biggest weekends

IOWA CITY, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) — An estimated 200,000 visitors are expected to make their way to the Iowa City-Coralville area this Fourth of July weekend as multiple major events converge, including two sold-out Savannah Bananas games at Kinnick Stadium, the Iowa City Summer of Arts Jazz Festival and Coralville’s 4thFest celebration.

“It is definitely a big weekend in the Iowa City-Coralville area,” said Nick Pfeiffer, vice president of public affairs for Think Iowa City.

The increased tourism is expected to have a significant impact on the local economy. Think Iowa City estimates a typical Hawkeye football weekend generates about $21 million in economic activity, and officials believe this holiday weekend could produce an even greater boost because of the number of major events happening at the same time…
