ANAMOSA — Kristy Raine was skeptical when she found a package, wrapped in brown paper, in a closet at the Anamosa Public Library. The package was labeled as holding an original Civil War flag.
“I certainly knew that it was old when I saw it, but saying that it truly reflected that label was a different leap for me,” said Raine, the director of library services at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids.
Having heard too many tales from other Anamosa residents claiming they owned original Grant Wood paintings, Raine suggested to library staff that the flag be authenticated…
