A Coralville man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges following an alleged assault and disturbance on the Fourth of July in Indianola.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Indianola Police Department, 37-year-old John James Andersen is charged with second-degree criminal mischief, assault on persons in certain occupations with intent to inflict injury, assault on persons in certain occupations causing bodily injury, possession of a dangerous weapon by an ineligible person, and first-offense domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, one Class C felony, two Class D felonies, and two serious misdemeanors.
Court documents allege officers responded to a welfare check at Moats Park shortly after 7 p.m., where Andersen was detained after witnesses reported an earlier disturbance. During the arrest, investigators allege Andersen injured an officer, attempted to assault the officer, and caused significant damage to a patrol vehicle.
