Cedar Rapids construction projects stalled after contractor pulls out

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Families near two Cedar Rapids construction zones are living with dirt piles and idle equipment after the contractor told the city it could not finish its two jobs as part of Cedar Rapids’ Paving for Progress.

One project is on the city’s Southeast side, along 34th Street between Bever Avenue and north of Terry Drive. The other is on the Northeast side, at Richard Drive, Nancy Jane Lane and Brookland Drive.

Jerry Johnson lives on 34th Street. He said he noticed construction work had stopped on Monday. On Thursday, he received a letter from the city that said the construction company, Shift, was not going to finish the project…
