University of Iowa seeking digital forensic help after Canvas breach

IOWA CITY — Three months after cybercriminals hacked into the main learning system used by Iowa State University and the University of Iowa — exposing student information such as usernames, email addresses and enrollment information — UI administrators are seeking new “incident response and digital forensic services.”

Through a request for qualifications, the university is looking to hire a company “with a demonstrated ability to provide incident response and digital forensic services rapidly in the event of cybersecurity events that may impact university information systems, research environments, health care-related systems, cloud services, operational technology, and third-party hosted services,” according to the request for quotation issued Aug. 24.

“The awarded supplier shall provide incident response services for critical severity and high severity cybersecurity incidents” like ransomware events, data breach investigations, advanced threat activity, email and identity attacks, cloud security incidents and other critical infrastructure incidents…
