CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Middle school students across Eastern Iowa will have another chance to compete in the National Civics Bee next year, with applications opening Sept. 7.
The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance Foundation will host the regional competition for a second year in spring 2027. Students in grades six through eight can enter by submitting an essay about an issue in their community and proposing a solution. Selected students will advance to a live regional competition.
The top competitors can move on to the Iowa State Civics Bee, with the state winner advancing to the national championship in Washington, D.C. The 2027 national champion will receive a $100,000 contribution to a 529 education savings account…
