There was at least one guest for every year of Vernon “Hook” Christensen’s life at his birthday party on Saturday – no small feat since they were there to celebrate his 100th birthday.
A crowd of people with ages ranging from newborn to septuagenarian gathered at Morgan Creek Park near Christensen’s Cedar Rapids home to wish him well the day after his birthday on Friday, Sept. 4. Marcia Dunn, one of Christensen’s daughters, said it wasn’t just family in attendance – a waitress and a couple of gas station attendants from businesses he frequents had RSVP’d.
The turnout was beyond anything Christensen imagined…
