Iowa communities see increased property tax revenue from data centers

Data center development is rising in Iowa, prompting several municipalities to enact legislation to regulate the industrial land use. Some communities, such as Cedar Rapids and West Des Moines, have benefited from increased property tax revenue and construction activity.

Ongoing development in Cedar Rapids has created more than 10,000 construction jobs, and Microsoft has added $2.5 billion to West Des Moines’ tax base.
