CEDAR RAPIDS — Investigators said Thursday the Cedar Rapids man shot by police Tuesday near Daniels Park died shortly after being taken to the hospital.
Travis McDermott, 38, was “openly” displaying a firearm in a “reckless manner” near Oakland Road and H Avenue NE when officers arrived after receiving a 911 call at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday, according to an Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation news release.
Two officers tried to de-escalate the situation, but McDermott’s “continued actions” placed the officers in “fear of immediate harm,” and they fired shots, striking him in the abdomen…
