At least ten people have drowned at Lake Macbride and the Coralville Reservoir since 2014, including elementary school teacher Hannah Jorgensen of Borlaug Elementary and fifth-grade student Ahmed Osman, who died after a field trip on Sept. 22.
As the community grapples with the loss of two “deeply valued members” of the Iowa City Community School District, the deaths have also sparked renewed attention to the waterway system at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area, between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, near Solon.
