The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has released the brackets for this week’s state wrestling tournament. Per the IGHSAU website, these are currently tentative as of Sunday afternoon.
Just like last year, the tournament is comprised of just one class with all the schools involved, unlike the IHSAA State Tournament that has three classes splitting the schools apart. In total, 448 wrestlers will compete at the IGHSAU State Championships, down from the 1,602 competitors at the IGHSAU Regionals held across the state. In the first year the sport was sanctioned by the IGHSAU, girls wrestling had 1,307 athletes at the IGHSAU Regionals in 2023. That’s a 22.6% increase in participants from last year to this year.
