Cedar Rapids man charged after allegedly injuring teen in drunk driving accident in Swisher

A Cedar Rapids man is accused of injuring a teenager in an early morning drunk driving accident in Swisher. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says 18-year-old Layton Baber of 6th Street SW crashed his 2015 Chevy Impala into a concrete bridge on Swisher View Drive near 3rd Street at 2:15 Sunday morning. Deputies say Baber showed signs of intoxication, performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and provided breath alcohol levels of .285% and .253%. A 17-year-old girl in the back seat suffered a large laceration on her forehead that required transport by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
