Cedar Rapids restaurant holds 4th of July hot dog eating contest

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – On the Fourth of July in 1916, four immigrants settled their argument over who was the most patriotic with a hot dog eating contest in Coney Island. Those hot dogs were from the first Nathan’s Famous hot dog stand, who held its first-ever official hot dog eating contest in 1972.
