Reynolds announces $7.2M to build new homes for disaster victims

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCAU) — Millions of dollars in state funding is set to go towards the construction of 175 homes for disaster victims in Iowa, including those affected by recent severe flooding.

Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Tuesday that the state has awarded $7.2 million to help build single-family and multi-family homes across eleven projects. The homes are set to be built in cities and communities such as Rock Valley, Spencer and Cherokee.

Deadline for Iowa FEMA applications extended to October 22

“Today’s awards are about more than building housing,” Reynolds said in a statement. “They’re about restoring the sense of home that is vital to these disaster-impacted communities. This support will help them begin to heal and find stability once again.”

The awards come through Iowa’s State Disaster Recovery New Housing Grant Program . The program was announced back in July and started with $10 million in financial aid available for counties eligible for FEMA’s Individual Assistance under a presidential disaster declaration.
