Dubuque Street to reopen by the end of the day Friday

After 25 weeks of ongoing construction, the Dubuque Street reconstruction project is complete, just in time for Iowa City’s busiest season.

Dubuque Street will fully reopen to pedestrian and vehicle traffic by the end of the day Friday. Street parking also will reopen, but spaces may be unavailable as beautification efforts continue.

In the next week, pavement markings will be painted on the southeast corner of Iowa Avenue and Dubuque Street, marking the official completion of hard surface work on the downtown road.

However, the alley between Dubuque Street and Linn Street, near Sports Column and Studio 13 , will continue until mid-fall.

“The alley work has been started, but the alley and the street will not be completed at the same time since all the efforts are focused on Dubuque Street,” said Iowa City Senior Civil Engineer Alin Dumachi.

The Dubuque Street reconstruction project is just one of 12 projects planned over the following years to help improve the Iowa City corridor.
