Two weeks left to claim lost items at the Iowa State Fair Lost and Found

DES MOINES, Iowa- There are two weeks left to claim lost items at the Iowa State Fair lost and found.

The Public Safety Office holds items for 30 days after the fair and then they donate unclaimed items. Many of them go to DAV Thrift, which is close to the lost and found.

Officers say this year’s lost and found is typical compared to previous years. There is a variety of items waiting to be claimed, including cell phones, purses, water bottles, shoes, umbrellas, and even car keys, drivers licenses, and bank cards. Plus, they’re still finding more items.

“Somebody will lose something, they call, we don’t have it, it doesn’t mean it won’t get turned in the next day or a week later. And so, we’re still going through and cleaning out buildings. The grounds are close to being open for interim operations, they’ll have horse shows and other events that’ll take place, but sometimes things are turned in then that haven’t been noticed,” said Police Commander Darin Van Ryswyk.

If you lost an item at the Iowa State Fair, call (515)401-1614 to be connected to the Public Safety Office. Officers will ask you to describe the item that you lost so they can see if they have it in their office.
