More housing coming to downtown Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – It’s a national trend with a Cedar Rapids twist. First, shopping left downtown, and now office workers have also gone elsewhere. City leaders say there is a record vacancy rate for downtown commercial space, including offices and retail. Nonetheless, housing is wanted in the downtown area. City leaders said vacant property rates were up 20%.
