Teenager facing felony charge after leading deputy on high-speed chase that topped 100 MPH

A juvenile teenager is facing a felony charge for leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing their vehicle in rural Johnson County.

The driver, who was not old enough to have a valid driver’s license, was allegedly clocked by a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputy traveling 92 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone near F.W. Kent Park on Thursday, Nov. 7.

The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but they “refused” and led the officer on a seven-mile, high-speed pursuit that topped 100 miles per hour, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. The driver was the only person in the vehicle and eventually lost control, crashing near Swan Lake Road NW and Half Moon Avenue NW in rural Johnson County.

The teenage driver suffered minor injuries.

The driver is charged with felony eluding, violation of intermediate graduate driver’s license and failure to maintain control of a vehicle as well as two counts of speeding.
