Three dishes in Iowa, including two in Des Moines, were named among the best in the Midwest in 2024 by Midwest Living, a magazine dedicated to the region’s culture and lifestyle.
Last month, Midwest Living released its list of the best dishes in the Midwest in 2024 . Staff were asked about the best meals they had across the Midwest all year, and they came up with a list of 21 dishes spanning eight states.

What did Midwest Living say about the Flan at Plated Table?
“I can confirm it was definitely the best flan I’ve ever eaten,” wrote Julia Sayers Gokhale, senior travel editor at Midwest Living. “It was light as air, meltingly smooth, with perfectly almost-burnt-but-not-quite caramel and a heavy dose of salt. Cross your fingers it’s on the menu when you go.”
