Cedar Rapids City Council votes to move forward with plans to revitalize two buildings

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – By Spring of 2026, a developer plans to turn the old Sears into some sort of sportsplex.

“Today was really the first step with the redevelopment and presenting to council and getting their authorization of the project of city financial incentives, and really authorizing us to negotiate a development agreement with the developer,” said Economic Development Project Coordinator Scott Mather.

The exact plans remain a bit of a mystery. But the city agreement says it will include a year-round, all purpose competition sports field…
