Join Ms. Frizzle and her class as they find their way across the galaxy while learning as much about teamwork as they do about the solar system in a live, one-hour performance.
TheatreWorksUSA’s family musical, The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System, is based on the popular book series published by Scholastic.
The five Ws
- Who: This is a free, all-ages show, but geared towards children ages 4-10.
- What: The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System, a TheatreWorksUSA’s production.
- Where: Roberts Gym of the North Liberty Community Center, 520 W Cherry St.
- When: Sunday, Feb. 16, 2025. 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m.
- Why: A fun afternoon with family, friends and neighbors as we explore the solar system.
Showtimes
Two, identical, one-hour performances will be offered:
- 11 a.m. (doors open at 10:30 a.m.)
- 1:30 p.m. (doors open at 1 p.m.)
What to expect
- This is a free performance. There are no tickets. Seating will be first-come, first-served on bleachers and on the floor. Personal chairs will not be permitted in the gym. See the accessibility section below for exceptions.
- The gym doors will open 30 minutes prior to each show time.
- Concessions will not be available, but personal water bottles and snacks are allowed.
- Each performance will be one hour and include 13 different musical numbers.
Who will be there
- Staff from the new University of Iowa Health Care Forevergreen Road campus to facilitate a STEM activity, and hand out a free chapter book: The Magic School Bus and the Giant Germ. Up to 350 books will be distributed at each performance (one per household, please).
- Corda Credit Union will also be in the gym handing out coloring books about financial literacy before each performance.
About the show
Families will love watching their favorite characters from the classic book & TV series explore the atmosphere on Mercury, Venus, and Mars on an epic interplanetary field trip. Guided by Ms. Frizzle, the class must pull together to find their way across the galaxy while learning as much about teamwork as they do about the solar system. Recommended for ages 4-10. Each performance is one hour long, and doors will open 30 minutes prior to the start.
The Magic School Bus: Lost in the Solar System is written by Marshall Pailet (book) and Matthew Lee Robinson (music & lyrics), based on the book series by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen.
