ReLeaf program is nearly halfway through planting trees to replace the tree canopy

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Cedar Rapids “ReLeaf” program is nearly halfway completed with tree planting, as the city continues to replace the tree canopy lost after the 2020 derecho.

The city’s Forestry Department said more than 65% of the city’s tree canopy was destroyed. Last year, the city ramped up its tree planting strategy in the latest phase to replace what was lost. Starting in April this year, the city will focus on seven neighborhoods and parks throughout Cedar Rapids.
