Iowa Weather Alert: Large Hail, Damaging Winds Possible Tuesday Night Across Des Moines and Central Iowa

Des Moines, IA – Scattered severe storms with large hail and damaging wind gusts could sweep through Iowa Tuesday night, placing much of the state on alert for hazardous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, a Level 2 out of 5 risk has been issued for central and southern Iowa beginning Tuesday evening and continuing into early Wednesday. The primary threats include large hail and wind gusts exceeding 55 mph. Areas most at risk include Des Moines, Ames, and Ottumwa.

The NWS warns that storms may form in western Iowa before moving northeast rapidly, impacting communities overnight. Wind speeds will also intensify statewide, with Tuesday afternoon gusts reaching 25 mph and climbing above 35 mph by Wednesday…
