Cedar Rapids man randomly attacked, beat with his own cane, court documents say

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — New court records shed more light on an “unprovoked” assault in northwest Cedar Rapids where the victim’s cane is being considered a dangerous weapon.

Daniel Doyen, 24, of Cedar Rapids is accused of attacking Andrew Holling, 48, on March 13 on B Avenue. Doyen’s identity was shared Monday, and he is charged with willful injury causing serious injury and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon.

Doyen’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday, and he is being held on a $7,000 cash only bond. Upon posting bond, Doyen would be under supervision of law enforcement…
