IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – In response to a national increase in violence against transit workers, Iowa City is moving to protect drivers by adding new doors to buses.
Over the next several months the city will be installing new doors separating drivers from passengers to 23 buses. Newer buses, ordered in 2020, already have these doors installed.
“It is something that we’re looking to implement and install for driver safety, to give them a better sense of comfort at in the workplace,” Mark Rummel, Iowa City’s assistant transit director, said. “It’s a really important job that we value a lot.“…
