Algona Woman Convicted for Stealing 1.8M

Pierre, SD (northwestiowanow.com) — A former South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS) employee was convicted Thursday for stealing approximately $1.8 million in state and federal funds allocated to the department’s Child Protection Services.

Lonna Carroll, who was living in Algona at the time of her arrest last summer, was found guilty by a Hughes County, South Dakota jury of two felony charges of Aggravated Grand Theft. She faces a maximum of 40 years in prison and up to $80,000 in fines.
