CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Community garden plots in Cedar Rapids are providing residents with the opportunity to grow fresh produce, foster connections, and promote sustainability.
The city offers 418 garden plots across five accessible locations, available for public lease from spring to fall. The Parks & Recreation Department tills the gardens each spring to prepare the soil for gardeners.
“Obviously we know the price of food is skyrocketing. If you’re willing to put in the sweat equity, if you will, it’s a little bit cheaper to grow your own food. So that’s certainly a benefit that we see,” Recreation Superintendent for the City of Cedar Rapids, Tony Ireland said…
