CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – We’re nearing the end of this prolonged stretch of occasional shower risks with one more round of showers & thunder in the southern half of the TV9 viewing area throughout the afternoon and evening.
Your First Alert: One More Day of Scattered Showers
Light to moderate rainfall is likely with this activity by late afternoon and evening. These could also be accompanied by some lightning and thunder, though severe weather is not expected. Highs will be in the 50s in the north, to mid 60s in the south.
Precipitation begins to fall apart by mid-evening tonight. This leaves behind partial clearing and a quiet night. Lows slip into the upper 40s in most spots.
Tomorrow we’ll do it all over again, but this time the focus for any shower or storm development will be generally south of U.S. Highway 20. They will be scattered in nature and generally on the light to moderate side. Total rainfall over the next two days could be between about 0.10″ to 0.25″.
Temperatures stay on the cool side thanks to the clouds and showers, with highs on Friday online in the upper 50s to low 60s.
A Great (but cooler) Weekend on the Way
Our fairly excellent weekend is still generally on track, but recent trends in the data coming into the Weather Lab suggest that it may be a touch cooler than hoped.
This is due to the storm system responsible for our current unsettled weather now apparently getting hung up in the atmospheric flow just to the east of Iowa. While this should be far enough to keep rain out of our picture, more clouds are possible at more times. This limits our daytime heating, and highs on Saturday will again be in the upper 50s to mid 60s…
