AmeriCorps member in Eastern Iowa speaks out after DOGE cuts

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – On Monday, hundreds of state AmeriCorps members got the news that their programs were terminated.

Johnson County Conservation, which served as a host site for an AmeriCorps program, says the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, ordered the cancellation of approximately $400 million in AmeriCorps grants. In a Facebook post, the organization said “14 other programs in Iowa were cut as well, along with over 1,000 nationwide. Over 32,000 current AmeriCorps members were affected nationwide from Monday’s cuts, including 568 members serving in Iowa.”
