Show You Care: 3rd graders raise thousands for ALS association

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – As school slows down, Samantha Paulson’s class is finishing out the year on a mission.

The idea for bracelets came from Paulson’s daughter Emma- one of her students this year. Emma makes these bracelets for a very personal cause. “For ALS, for other people,” says Emma. “And since my grandpa died from it and it’s been a hard time for us. So we’re trying to, like, make it easier for other people. That way they can get over the sickness.”

Paulson’s father lost his battle with ALS in 2022. She shares his story with her community at St. Pius X, and keeps a photo of him in her classroom. It’s inspired her students to dedicate their service project to the ALS Association. “The students have been so invested in his life and you know, he was a teacher, so he inspired me to become a teacher. And this is just the way I get to incorporate him in my classroom every day here at St. Pius,” says Paulson…
