IOWA CITY, Iowa — An Iowa City eighth grader is reeling after catching a catfish that he weighed in at 68 pounds, and he said he brought it to shore without a net, all by himself.
Benjamin Stong, 14, caught the flathead catfish in the Iowa River on Wednesday morning before going to school. He said he rides his bike 30 minutes to his spot to beat the crowds and the heat that comes later in the day.
“Getting out in the morning and fishing in the same spot over and over, I can expect to catch anything big,” Stong said. “But a fish that size only gets caught about 10 to 15 times a year.”…
