CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Many newly planted trees in Cedar Rapids have been affected by recent high winds, a common occurrence in eastern Iowa.
Strong winds pose a threat to young, newly planted trees due to their underdeveloped root systems, making them more susceptible to being uprooted or damaged.
Just about two weeks ago, Cedar Rapids saw winds gusts around 40 to 55 mph, and a lot of the trees recently planted by ReLeaf Cedar Rapids took a hit. City staff are actively working to restore the trees that were damaged, and implement strategies to keep them healthy long term…
