CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – On Wednesday, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor celebrated the grand opening of the Busse Unit. It’s the club’s first stand-alone home since the previous home was destroyed in the 2008 flood, and is located at the corner of Washington Ave and 16th Street SE in Cedar Rapids.
Executive Director John Tursi says the community has rallied behind the new building, raising $11 million in eight months. Starting on June 16th, 125 kids will get to start using the Busse Unit.
The two-story building houses a variety of resources for children. The first floor includes a gymnasium, education center, and STEM lab, offering opportunities for children to develop skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
