A man from Davenport was arrested over the weekend after the Iowa State Patrol found him in a vehicle reported stolen out of Clinton.
The criminal complaint in the case says the Iowa State Patrol learned about a stolen car out of Cedar Rapids via radio on June 15 at about 9:30 p.m. The alert said a Mercedes Benz sedan had been stolen out of Clinton at about 8:30 p.m. and the suspect was identified as Demar Latrel Johnson, 45. He was reported to have a black handgun with him.
An ISP trooper was eastbound on Locust Street near Gaines Street in Davenport at about 8:59 p.m. and saw a black Mercedes matching the description of the stolen car that was driving westbound. The trooper turned around and caught up to the vehicle near Locust and Washington Streets.
The trooper confirmed the license plate and informed state radio that he was behind the correct vehicle while he waited for backup, according to the complaint. The Mercedes signaled that it was going to turn south on Lincoln Avenue from Locust. The backup trooper arrived, they activated emergency lights and the vehicle pulled to the side of the road.
