Your next hairstylist or barber may not have a license: new Iowa law sets training option

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A new Iowa law adds a new option for people in training to become a barber or cosmetologist in the state.

New establishment training programs give permission for people to learn under supervision of an experienced provider, allowing trainees to perform services on clients without a license and without having to go to school. Governor Kim Reynolds signed it into law on June 6.
