CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – After a slow start, organizers of the Landlord and Tenant Incentive Pilot Program say it’s seeing success, with 14 tenants in stable housing.
The program launched in November, and is designed to help landlords accept housing challenged tenants. Landlords in the program are given a cash bonus and a fund they can dip into as an incentive to accept tenants they might have otherwise turned away.
Waypoint helps to coordinate the city’s program. Landlord Liaison Adrienne Kasner says they worked hard to find landlords who not only were willing to participate in the program, but had affordable housing units. “There’s just a housing shortage in the area, and so finding affordable housing is difficult regardless of if you have support from an agency helping you or not,” says Kasner. “We have 8 landlords who are enrolled, and by enrolled I mean they have a tenant in the program who has signed a lease with them.”…
