CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – It looks like our break from more active weather will be relatively brief.

Any leftover showers should continue to diminish overnight, though they’ll linger on the longest in our northeast zone.

Tonight, we all turn drier as skies become partly cloudy. Lows will be in the low to mid 60s with light winds.

We should remain mostly dry on Wednesday, too, with a mix of sun and clouds by the afternoon. A very low chance of an isolated pop-up shower is there in the south tomorrow, but it appears the much more likely outcome is that nothing occurs. Temperatures reach the mid 80s for most.

Later Wednesday night involves a slight chance for a few showers or storms on the leading edge of higher moisture. This occurs closer to daybreak on Thursday, though it should be fairly isolated. A few more storms could pop up again on Thursday, but it’s a similar situation to today, where many of us will miss out entirely.

The better chance for more showers and storms will be here by Thursday night into Friday. A couple of rounds will be possible, first in the early morning hours and again as instability in the atmosphere builds in the afternoon. Some of those storms could be strong or even severe, if things come together just right.

There will be plenty of moisture in the atmosphere, too, so heavier downpours are a possibility in any thunderstorms. Total rainfall could easily exceed an inch in spots, but it will depend on the track of individual rounds of showers and storms. Like last week, there will be bands of heavier totals and areas where less is seen.

A few showers and storms linger into the start of the weekend, though we will trend toward drier weather again by the second half of the weekend. More clouds and showers on Saturday keep our highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. Things warm up a bit more on Sunday, reaching the mid 80s again. The better part of the weekend could be a bit of a reprieve in our dew point levels, being held back into the mid 60s for a slightly less muggy feel…
