DES MOINES, Iowa — The 2024 chronic absenteeism law outlined a three-tiered system to help keep kids returning to the classroom.
First, parents and county attorneys would be notified. If absences continue, then a mandatory meeting would be scheduled with the school to come up with a solution. If that plan wasn’t followed or absences hit 20%, the county attorney steps in.
