Burger King fire closes down restaurant

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A Cedar Rapids Burger King is temporarily closed after a fire broke out in the kitchen on the 300 block of 33rd Ave. SW.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday after smoke was seen coming from the roof. When they arrived, everyone had already gotten out safely.

The fire started around the deep fryer and quickly grew into a large grease fire. Firefighters used special extinguishers and water to put it out. The flames had spread into the vent system, which crews took apart to make sure everything was fully out. They also cleared the smoke from the building…
