Cedar Rapids school board votes down leadership raises after member voices concerns

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Cedar Rapids Community School District board declined raises for certain school leaders after a board member expressed concerns over email days before.

Board member Jennifer Borcherding was one of four no votes during the meeting on July 14. In emails obtained by the Gazette, called the raises “incongruous,” or out of place, compared to other rates approved by the board.

Raises for executive staff would be anywhere from 6-22%. In comparison, teachers got a 3% raise for the upcoming school year. School administration do not bargain for their pay through a union or other group…
