IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – A Ukrainian family living in Iowa City is stuck in limbo and unable to work as the federal government decides whether or not to extend their parole from a humanitarian program.
Before February 24, 2022, Mykola and Svitlana Volkogon had thought war in Ukraine was an idea of the past.
“And I talked to Svitlana, and I was like, there is no reasonable way the war will be here on our land in the 21st century,” says Mykola. “We are shooting into space, we have cured cancer. The war is something that is 200 years behind.”…
