An Air Quality Alert is in effect for the entire TV9 viewing area as a dense area of smoke from Canadian fires has settled into the region. Air Quality Index readings have largely been in the Red-Unhealthy category for most of the day, which means that even people without preexisting conditions should consider limiting exercise outdoors. The latest forecast information we have from computer models and the Environmental Protection Agency suggests that we’re likely to stay in the Orange-Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups to Red-Unhealthy range through at least FriFridayiay. There’s some indication that the smoke may slowly disperse enough by the weekend to provide slightly better conditions.
In the meantime, consider avoiding extra strenuous activities outdoors until air quality improves. Keep your windows closed at home, as using the air conditioner will help filter the air somewhat. Children, the elderly, and those with preexisting heart and lung conditions are most susceptible to issues due to particulate matter, like smoke, in the air.
