Davenport, Iowa – Dangerous rounds of heavy rain and thunderstorms could lead to flash flooding across eastern Iowa and western Illinois from midday Saturday through early Sunday morning. Rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches an hour are possible, raising the risk of rapid flooding in low-lying areas and along creeks and rivers.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Level 3 of 4 flash flood risk covers much of eastern Iowa, including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Davenport, while a Level 2 risk extends east into Illinois. Flood Watches remain in effect for most of the region through Monday afternoon.
The Storm Prediction Center has also issued a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for severe storms, with damaging winds the main concern and hail also possible. The window for the strongest storms is from around noon Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday.
