CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) — Millions of trees were lost across the state of Iowa five years ago. Cedar Rapids was hit the hardest with hundreds of thousands of trees taken down in less than an hour.
“We lost an estimated 70% of our tree canopy in 45 minutes, so that’s estimated at 670,000 trees. We went from a 24% canopy overall shade coverage in town, and dropped to 8%,” said Linn County Trees Forever Director of Programming Molly Stuelke.
