JONES COUNTY, Iowa — One person is dead after a plane crash near Monticello on Monday. The pilot, James Rohlf was killed in the crash, according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.
Crews were called to a report of a downed aircraft in a field south of Monticello. The crash was reported to the Monticello Regional Airport by another pilot who remained over the crash site until rescue crew arrived. Fire responders say Rohlf was found dead when they arrived.
Rohlf was flying a 1958 T-28B when he reported engine trouble shortly after takeoff and said he would return to the airport. Less than a minute later he radioed that he was going down in a beanfield…
