IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Schools in Iowa City marked the first day of the school year Monday – and some parents marked another potentially stressful first: their child’s first walk or bike ride to school by themselves.
Since July 2024, Iowa law has expanded pedestrian protections to people using bikes, scooters, skateboards, strollers and wheelchairs in crosswalks. Therefore, drivers must yield to these types of pedestrians.
