Abbe Center moves into new home

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Abbe Center for Community Mental Health is settling into their new home near Downtown Cedar Rapids. The new location at 615 5th St. SE combines the services offered at their former locations in Hiawatha and northwest Cedar Rapids.

“The location was perfect for us,” said Megan Vranish, Abbe Center for Community Mental Health Executive Director, ” Being downtown we’re in the med district, so we’re excited about that. Closer to St. Luke’s Hospital, better access, hopefully, for individuals taking the bus, closer to the at bus depot. Just easier access overall for people.”

The new building offers therapy, psychiatry, substance abuse counseling and two primary care doctors. It is in the building formerly called the Stamats Building.

“Hopefully having this nice space helps people feel comfortable,” Vranish added. “People facing a mental health crisis might have difficulty taking that first step to come into services. So hoping that this environment gets them the ability to do that.”…
