Lend a hand, leaf a mark: Help tidy up Iowa’s parks and forests on Statewide Volunteer Day

SOLON, Iowa — Iowa’s Statewide Volunteer Day is Saturday, September 27, and the parks are calling on community members to lend a hand and help tidy up Iowa’s green spaces.

“Statewide Volunteer Day is a play on the National Public Lands Day and it’s a good opportunity for people to come out to their public lands and give back,” Jason Dykstra, Park Ranger at Lake Macbride State Park said.

Clean-up efforts will vary based on park needs, but generally include picking up litter, painting or staining buildings, removing invasive species, rebuilding picnic tables, or harvesting prairie seeds…
