IOWA CITY, Iowa — The woman accused of killing her newborn baby and throwing him in the trash more than 30 years ago had her arraignment hearing in Johnson County on Thursday.
Cindy Elder was arrested in Missouri and charged with first-degree murder in early September. She was extradited to Iowa on Wednesday.
Elder’s criminal complaint says in 1992, she did not tell anyone she was pregnant before giving birth in a basement. Police then say she threw the baby in a trash can, and the baby was later discovered at the Iowa City landfill by a truck driver…
